Silent Lot #101 – Barnett Vineyards

As described by the winery, the 2012 Spring Mountain Cabernet “jumps from the glass.” Immense amounts of aromatics are extremely prevalent upon pouring. Giant amounts of blackberry, ripe fig, violet perfume and plum are surrounded by creamed coffee, cedar and allspice. The mouth feel is velvety and rich. Black currants, mocha and pepper flavors take over on the palate. The tannins are definitely present in a round, chalkier form, where very firm mountain acidity aids to balance them out. Although extremely aromatic already, this stunning wine will age beautifully over the next 14 to 15 years. A gorgeous Double Magnum of this wine is an outstanding addition to any collection. According to The Wine Spectator, the wine is “well-proportioned, with a complex mix of red berry, cherry and wild berry, turning supple and subtle mid-palate and ending with a tasty burst of fruit.” There is a reason it received a rating of 91 points…this is one you do not want to miss!

One of them will be a 1989 Petrus Pomerol, a hands-down unbeatable red. This wine received 100 points from The Wine Advocate: “Every bit the blockbuster concentrated effort…in the mouth the wine cuts a broad swath, with spectacular intensity, richness, massive concentration and high levels of tannin, yet the wine is fabulously well-delineated and has a finish that goes on for nearly a minute…as prodigious as Petrus can be.” And it was also given 100 points from Wine Spectator: “It’s a giant, yet also sophisticated and reserved. Full-bodied, with opulent fruit and a depth of flavor that lasts for minutes on the palate.”
