Imagination makes magic happen — inspiring creativity & curiosity.

At The Center and Company of Fools, we’re thankful that throughout the year we witness the many magical moments people experience when participating in a Center program. And there’s nothing more magical than watching a child leave one of our events inspired by imagination, curiosity, or joy.

Here are just a few moments students and teachers shared with us after participating in a Center or Company of Fools arts education program…

The Center and Company of Fools serve over 4,000 students in the valley—reaching every student in each Blaine County school at least once a year (and often more) through our Student Exhibition Tours, Classroom Enrichment Projects, Professional Artist Residencies, and Company of Fools’ Stages of Wonder theatre arts program and Student Matinees.

In addition, The Center’s annual Student Scholarship Program supports local students (and educators) pursue educational programs in the arts and humanities. To date, the scholarship program has awarded nearly $850,000.

We are honored to provide programs that enhance the quality of life in our community, but we couldn’t do any of this without the support of generous contributors, like YOU!

“Student Matinees are pretty amazing because more often than not, those are the shows where you have kids who have never seen a live stage performance before—and it is, essentially, magic. We have a ‘chat back’ at the end and they have these wonderful, joyous, beautiful questions about this art form they may have never experienced before.”

– Chris Carwithen, Actor, Company of Fools

“It was a fun process, from the initial stages of planning all the way through the project completion in the classroom. The students were invigorated and refreshed by having an interesting and engaging project presented by such positive, enthusiastic Center staff members.”
— Leslie Henning, Teacher, Wood River Middle School, 6th Grade Science

“Thank you so much for the opportunity to include our kids in your performance. A few of my crew had never seen a live performance before and were quite blown away by how magical it was. It’s always one of my favorite things about teaching to be able to expose students like that to live performance for the first time.”
— Julie Berry, Teacher, Silver Creek High School

“The students learned and had fun—and so did I. I knew something about the six artists we learned about before the project, but I know so much more now and look forward to seeing their work in museums. My students were almost casually throwing around thoughts about the artists—they were able to pick out the style their classmates were working in from the key features we learned about each artist. I believe doing the hands-on kinesthetic work will help the memories last longer. When you physically build a face that has front-view and profile at the same time you’re more likely to remember and appreciate a Picasso.”

— Glenn Lindsley, Teacher, Wood River High School, 12th Grade Applied Math

“The value of Stages of Wonder—every time our teachers go into the classroom, the thing that we experience is that children get to learn without right/wrong, or pass/fail. It’s one of the most liberating ways for anyone—not just kids—to learn.”

— Denise Simone, Actor, Company of Fools Co-founder

“The concept of using directed, physical movement to instill learning was new to me. For many of the students, placing themselves in the shoes of the people in the images allowed them to use their kinesthetic learning style. I’m a believer in movement in the classroom to enhance learning, but this project took that idea to a new level. Extremely powerful techniques, such as this, are wonderful tools. I feel very fortunate to have had The Center come to my room and take us all on this adventure.”

— Tim Rierden, Teacher, Wood River Middle School, 7th Grade Humanities
