CREATIVE JUMP-IN: Encaustic: The Basics and Beyond with Jeff Juhlin

Tuesday, July 23, 10:00 am

$445 members / $495 nonmembers

Discover the luscious luminosity and translucent quality of encaustic painting!

In this 3 day workshop (July 23-25) that focuses on fun and exploration, Jeff will offer a brief history of Encaustic and students will learn the basics of this ancient painting technique that uses hot beeswax mixed with resin and pigment. Popular for use with collage materials, image transfers, photography and more. Encaustic painting involves applying layers of molten wax to a rigid support surface and fusing each additional layer to the previous layer with heat. Each participant will complete several small paintings during the workshop and will come away knowing how to prepare surfaces, melt paint, mix colors, learn line and mark marking techniques and create transfers, collages, and more! This class is ideal for beginners or intermediate level students wanting a review and those ready to learn more advanced techniques. Participants will be encouraged to explore and develop their artistic vision and expand their visual vocabulary. All levels of artists are welcome.
