Marshall Meyer, a professor at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, will talk about the multiple Chinas that exist today, poles apart from one another other. As novelist Yu Hua recently noted in a New York Times column, the world’s second largest economy is also home to more than 100 million people who make less than $1 a day. Regarding business practices in 21st century China, Meyer writes, “The lesson is, be prepared for infinite variety: China is no monolith, stereotypes of communism or of Chinese capitalism notwithstanding.”
The talk is part of a lead-up to a multidisciplinary project on China that The Center will open on August 30. Dr. Meyer is an expert on organizational performance and management in China. He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago and has taught at Wharton since 1987.
