Start your Gallery Walk at the Center!
Each year Sun Valley Gallery Association hosts seven gallery walks (exhibition openings for all SVGA galleries), which are eagerly anticipated and free to the public. Locals and visitors alike take in thought-provoking exhibitions of newly installed art, enjoy wine, mingle with friends, and often meet the artists.
This exhibition considers dazzle camouflage, a system of high-contrast, disruptive camouflage applied to U.S. and British naval ships during World Wars I and II. Uniting visual art with warfare, dazzle camouflaged ships featured geometric patterns of bold colors meant to make it difficult for enemy ships (especially U-boats) to determine a ship’s size, direction or speed. The exhibition features historic diagrams from the archives of the Fleet Library at RISD as well as dazzle-inspired artwork by contemporary artists Thomas Bangsted, Liz Collins, Stuart Elster and Stephanie Syjuco.
Dazzle Camouflage: Hiding in Plain Sight exhibition on view Aug 5–Oct 14, 2016 at The Center, Ketchum.
