“Defining America’s Playgrounds: Railroads and the Promotion of Tourism in the Rocky Mountain West, 1915-1945”
Curator of Western American History at the Huntington Library Peter Blodgett will discuss the role of the transcontinental railroad in promoting tourism in the American West. Blodgett recently curated the Huntington’s exhibition, Visions of Empire: The Quest for a Railroad across America, 1840-1880. Blodgett received a bachelor’s in American History from Bowdoin College and a doctorate from Yale. He is particularly interested in how and why Americans travel.
